On my way to somewhere today, I passed through a mew. Basically, paths are called either street, road or place but there are ones called mews. which are row or street of houses that have been converted from stables to small houses or garden. They are traces of old use from the time when people are using carriage as main public transportation. We will see MEWS just behind a big street or road which has row of posh houses. MEWS were used as a stables and rooms for servants. Of course you won't find any carriages now but instead, you will see many nice small houses and pleasant gardens. Very quite and having good atmosphere. If i can i want to live there : )
外出して目的地に向かう途中、ふと寄り道しようと思ってＭＥＷＳに入った。ロンドン、基本的に通りにはＳＴＲＥＥＴとかＲＯＡＤ、ＰＬＡＣＥ等の名前が付いているが、ＭＥＷＳというのもある。これは直訳すると袋小路とか、馬小屋、馬小屋の並んだ通りとなる。主要な交通手段が馬車だった時代の名残であり、ＳＴＲＥＥＴやＲＯＡＤの大邸宅が並ぶ道の裏側に発見できる。大きな通りには富裕層の大邸宅が並び、その富裕層のための馬小屋・使用人部屋が作られたのがＭＥＷＳである。今では勿論馬小屋はないが、その代わり小さな品の良い小住宅と潤った庭が並んでいる。とても静かで雰囲気が良い。住めるのなら住んでみたい。

Once you get out of MEWS, you will see modern society full of speed and cars, but I won't say I hate it. So,,, today my destination was motorcycle shop at Vauxhall. I go there sometimes. Financially its still difficult to own a motorcycle, but not too far,,,, well,, very far. Well,, I have heavy motorcycle license, so,,, i should have one. I want to go for an outing to suburb.
ＭＥＷＳを抜けると目の前をビュンビュン鉄の塊が行き交うスピード・車社会に戻ってしまう。でもまたこれも好きである。ということで今日はＶＡＵＸＨＡＬＬのバイク屋へいった。バイク屋には時々脚を運ぶ。経済的にまだ無理だが、そんなに遠くもない、、いや遠い。せっかく大型二輪持っているのだから所有したい。２年近く乗っていなから、久し振りに乗って郊外にでも遠出したいと思うばかりである。
After Vauxhall, I walked along Thames toward North, passing Westminster, Southbank and till Tate. Around Bank was very quiet and bloodless like West Shinjyuku because both of them are business district. I walked a lot today.
ＶＡＵＸＨＡＬＬからテムズ川沿いを歩き、ウェストミンスター、サウスバンクを超え、テートまで来てしまった。週末のバンク周辺は閑散とし活気が無く面白くない。西新宿と同じでビジネス街だから仕方がない。歩いた１日だった。
