Second half of first day in Spain.
I never seen real Caratrava's architecture except on a magazine or computer screen. The real one was white and bright as I used to see on these media. The architecture was reminiscent of dinosaur-like bones from ancient period on the surface of light blue water. The white and this blue really fit to this geography. Anyway, its really hot. Even walking under the sun take our energy away. So we rested under the dinosaur rib structure sitting on Le Corbusier's sofa looking at Isamu Noguchi's table drinking Aquarius with air-conditioned space which reminds me of Japan. Once we recovered from the tiredness, we get out and I did a little sketch, and J and T were playing in the shallow water. It was quite hard to sketch this bone structure actually. This architecture was apparently designed from cross section, not from plan… thinking under the burning sun. Cooling my foot in the water. Something interesting I can see behind Caratrava's bridge. It was Oceanographic Valencia. Good place to visit and cool down. Many creatures in the Mediterranean. We spent a while in the Oceanographic and then came back in front of Caratrava's shell to see the structure. It's flying really long span. At night, we went to a quite nice Spanish restaurant where you see less people than the central main street. So it was bit posh, but we didn't care today, its the beginning of the journey and this was recommended from Hostel's manager who live here quite long. So the information is authentic for sure. Valencia Paella was great. Well, today we have to sleep early for Tomatina tomorrow.
スペイン１日目後半。
カラトラバの建築は紙媒体かスクリーン上でしか観た事がなかった。実物は紙面上の建築と同じ程に白く目映かった。巨大な恐竜の骨を彷彿させる形態の建築が水色の水面にいくつも並んでいた。蛍光色の様に明るい水と目映い白はこの地にとても似合う。それにしても暑い。歩くだけでも疲れたので、巨大な肋骨建築の内部のコルビジェのイスに座り、イサムノグチのテーブルを眺めながら休憩。クーラー、アクエリアスと日本を思い出す要素がいくつか。ある程度力が回復した後、表へ出て僕はスケッチ、J、Tは水遊び。カラトラバの特にこの骨骨しい構造物のラフスケッチは難しいな。これはセクションから思いついた建築に違いない。プランからこの建築はできないな。と炎天下思いながら軽くスケッチ。足は冷たい水に浸り気持ちがいい。カラトラバの橋の向こうに何やら楽しそうな場所が発見できた。その名も Oceanographic Valencia、海洋学研究所というのだろうか、というか水族館だった。地中海の魚、ペンギン、アシカ等ぼーっと観て涼む。水族館を後にして、カラトラバの構造を眺める。凄く飛んでいる。夜は豪華なスペイン料理を食べた。町の中心部のある通りで、ホステルのおじいちゃんが推薦してくれた通りだった。鶏肉や豆がたくさんはいったヴァレンシア風パエリアがメイン料理で美味しかった。腹１２分目なので、歩くのも大変だった。部屋に帰って明日のトマティーナに備えて、装備を完璧にして、ハヤバヤと寝た。明日は戦いだ。
