Today I decided to stay all day in British Museum and to make sketches as many as possible. Every section in the museum includes sculptures and something stereoscopic so that we don't have to worry about running out of the objects, basically. The collections are from around the world, thus, "Get boring with Greek sculptures, then go to Africa, and if we get boring with Africa, go to Asia",,, we can do like this. We can enjoy sketching journey in the museum. Here in UK, art education seems to be much more evolved so that there are many people, who is engaged with the free-for-all program, are drawing. It is heartwarming scene when we see the children surrounding the sculptures and drawing. And they are likely to draw on sculpture sometimes...haha. Well, for those reasons, in uk we are very free to draw in museum.
The 2 on the top are "early bronze age jugs from cemetries in the Yortan area" and "Housepost of the Latmul people in Papua New Guinea ". And the 2 ono the bottom are "kovave mask for festival, rite" and "The ram in the thickness". in the beginning, I draw the detail precisely but at the end, i was very tired to draw the details... and become very roughly...From BM site, it says that "In Genesis 22:13, God ordered Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, but at the last moment 'Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son". So this scene is like a subject of christian art pieta. many artists depicted many from this story.
In British Museum, they have more things to see, but haven't see half of them yet. Right now, what i want to see is the temporal exhibition of "China's terracotta army."

だらだらしていないとも言い切れない程度に身が重いです。今日は１日中、ブリティッシュミュージアムに入り浸り、スケッチしまくる日と決めたので友達と出かける。ＢＭはスケッチするには恰好の場所。どこのセクションに行っても彫刻、立体物がおいてあるのでスケッチのネタ切れなんて基本的にない。コレクションは世界中から集められているから、「ギリシャに飽きたらアフリカへ、アフリカに飽きたらアジアへ」ってな感じでスケッチ旅行が楽しめる。こちらはアート教育が進んでいるから、ミュージアムの自由参加型プログラムの一貫で絵を描いている人がたくさんいる。幼稚園児くらいの子供達も彫刻にグラフィティしそうな勢いで絵を描いている。。。という雰囲気なのでスケッチが気軽に出来る。一日中そこにいて沢山描いた。
スケッチは上の２つが「青銅器時代のある墓から出土した水差し」と「パプワニューギニアのラツムル族？の家の柱」。下のが、「祭りのためのコバベマスク」と「やぶの羊（紀元前２６００年も前）」。最初は頑張っていたけれども最後の方は気力がなくなって雑な絵になっている。。。最後のこの「やぶの羊」は創世記に出てくるらしく、神がアブラハムに息子のイサクを生け贄に捧げるよう命令された時に、ふと振り返ると羊がやぶに引っかかっているのを発見し、息子の代わりに羊を生け贄に捧げたという話。この場面が色んなアーティストによって色んな形で再現されている。キリストの「ピエタ」の様に彫刻や絵画の題材になっていたようだ。今回スケッチしたやつは４０センチくらいの高さの置物風なやつだった。
ＢＭではまだまだ見てない物がたくさんあるが、今一番見たいのは期間展示の「兵馬俑」。これはもう少ししたら見ようと思う。
