It's 27th of September, Monday midnight, I came back home. From Rome to U.K. Just 6 hours ago, I was walking in the Bath of Caracalla. How warm it was in Rome that i can walk without any jacket. But here in London, my breath was white. Camden was in awful condition in the midnight on Sunday that a pile of rubbish is only thing you see around. Desperate scenery it was. Rome's ground consists of mud and rubbish which was drowned by multiple flood. No romanticism at all.
日付がまわり２７日、月曜日夜２４時半、フラットに帰宅。ローマから英国に戻ってきた。たった６時間程前には黄昏のカラカラ浴場遺跡の中を散策していた。あれほど暖かかったローマから吐く息が白いロンドン、若者の掃き溜めと化したカムデンへと帰ってきた。これは酷い光景だった。ローマの地盤は度重なる洪水によるゴミと土の積層で分厚くなっていったらしいが、残念ながらカムデンの道端に散らかったゴミからそんなロマンティシズムは全く感じない。
"Rome was not built in a day", truly it wasn't. The city was clearly visible of historical layers of recent 2000 years. I knew how Rome looks like from Piranesi's Etching. Series of landscape of Roman ruins. But I didn't expect to see exact scenery in the context of modern age. Actually it were as if it was in the etching nearly which amazed me a lot. The condition of the ruins, innumerable holes on the brick wall, so on… were nearly same as how he depicted.
「ローマは一日にして成らず」とは良く聞くものだが、正にローマはここ２０００年の時が積層した都市であった。僕が知ってるローマは、ピラネージのエッチングのローマの遺構だった。250年くらい前にピラネージが描いたローマの遺跡群が、ほとんど変わらない状態で残っていた。破壊の具合やレンガに明けられた無数の穴（これに関してはプロのガイドから豊富な知識を得た）の位置等驚く程に同じだった。フォロ・ロマーノでその光景を見た時には目を疑った。後々のアップロードで写真とエッチングを比較してみたい。
写真の枚数は５００枚程だった。同僚達は１００枚から１５０枚。それはさすが日本人だと言われたのでちょっと誇らしい。良い写真が撮れた。
